To improve the English teaching and learning conditions in Guizhou, China-US People's Friendship Association established the Citigroup China-US Friendship English Libraries in 6 middle schools in Guizhou Province thanks to the sponsorship of the Citigroup. All six libraries have been put into use by now. Ms. Wang Li, a vice president of the Citibank China in charge of public affairs, recently visited 2 libraries, which are respectively located at Zhenfeng High School in the southwest of the province and at Leishan High School in the southeast of the province. Both schools, whose students are mainly from families of the Buyi Ethnic Group and Miao Ethnic Group, lie in remote mountainous areas, and faced great shortage of English books and multimedia materials. The establishment of the libraries offers teachers and students easy access to English materials, and enhances their enthusiasms in learning English. In three months, more than 1000 students in each school visited the library. The Citigroup will continue to sponsor another five or six libraries in Guangxi Autonomous Region this year through China-US People's Friendship Association.
